Different than many other weight loss solutions, we offer a medical weight loss program that goes beyond the typical diet. We provide personal weight loss counselling and support, as well as lifestyle education, throughout the program to help ensure your long term weight loss success.
WHAT IS MEDICAL WEIGHT LOSS?
It is weight management based on medical scientific principles that target the root causes of obesity and weight gain to achieve and sustain a healthy weight in the long-term under the care of a medical team.
HOW IS MEDICAL WEIGHT LOSS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER PROGRAMS
The tools that medical weight loss providers use to help you manage your weight are very different from what you find with commercial programs. First, medical weight loss providers use your metabolism and body composition (mainly fat percentage) as true indicators of weight loss progress. Second, they can prescribe safe, low-calorie diets that are specifically designed to help you lose weight while breaking the cycle of food addiction. And should you choose, your medical provider can also prescribe an appetite suppressant for you. Finally, medical weight loss providers can view your weight loss and maintenance within the context of your total health profile. If you have a condition that requires medication that may be interfering with your weight loss efforts, your medical weight loss provider prescribe a safe, effective alternative to lift those barriers.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Knowing your overall health condition, and your current weight and body composition, among other things, is the first step in your successful weight loss journey. This is like your baseline from which we establish a reasonable weight goal. Once we know where you are and where you are going, our medical doctor and dietitians will design an effective and personalized plan to ensure you reach and sustain your healthy weight goal.
- Your Medical History
Your visit starts with our medical doctor asking for your medical history, including any prescription or over-the-counter medication you may be taking. It’s very important for us to understand your overall health when designing your personalized plan.
- Body Composition Analysis (BCA)
Our dietitian will ask you to step on a special scale that will give you a total breakdown of the percentages of fat, muscle, and water in your body. Your resting metabolism and blood pressure will also be taken. This gives us a baseline of where you’ll start your weight loss plan.
- Consultation with our Dietitian
Finally, our dietitian will review your medical history and BCA results, and then will sit down to get to know you. This is the time to open up about your weight loss goals and challenges, and what you truly want to get out of a weight loss plan. In order for us to design your personalized plan, we need to get to know the whole you.
YOUR PERSONALIZED PLAN
At the end of your visit, you’ll have a plan, personalized just for you! If you decide to move ahead with your personalized weight loss plan, you’ll not only be following a medically proven weight loss approach, but you’ll be building a relationship with your weight loss team, who will be your greatest support throughout the process.
During the program our team closely monitors and assesses your progress towards better health and well-being as you lose weight. During your journey with us, we will ensure that the doses of any medications you are taking, and/or the calorie level of your diet is adjusted accordingly, making your weight loss both safe and effective.
WHAT DOES MEDICAL MONITORING INCLUDES?
- A thorough preliminary medical examination and any necessary lab tests to determine your health status and rule out any risk factors
- A personalized weight loss plan based on your health status and weight loss goals
- Continued guidance and medical monitoring of your progress, health, and well-being throughout the course of treatment
- Communication with your doctor and dietitian, as necessary
More and more, clinical studies suggest medically monitored weight management programs are safe, effective and help individuals to address and modify behaviours to encourage long-term weight management.
