HOW DOES FRACTIONAL CO2 LASER WORK?
The Fractional CO2 laser has improved the process of skin rejuvenation tremendously. Instead of ablating (vaporizing) the entire surface of the treated skin, the fractional CO2 laser makes many tiny holes in the treated skin, leaving the skin surrounding these holes intact. As the skin heals from being ablated, new collagen production within the skin is stimulated but with a much shorter recovery time and far less complications. It is this new collagen that is responsible for the reduction of wrinkles, acne scars, brown spots, and the overall improvement in the texture and tone of your skin. While traditional CO2 lasers were far too harsh on the delicate skin of the neck and the back of the hands, the new fractional CO2 laser can treat these areas easily with great results.
WHAT RESULTS CAN BE EXPECTED?
Fractional CO2 laser stands out from other skin rejuvenation options because you get great results from a single treatment in days; no other treatment is able to deliver such quick and effective results. This procedure combines the proven effectiveness of an ablative methodology with the patient comfort level and convenience that approaches a non-ablative solution.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE TREATMENT?
The procedure is performed in an out-patient theatre under target controlled infusion sedation to eliminate any pain. For most patients, laser skin resurfacing with the Fractional CO2 procedure system takes less than 45 minutes.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY LIKE?
Following your fractional CO2 laser treatment, there can be mild discomfort for 24 to 48 hours (similar to sunburn). For the first few days the treated skin will feel tight and may itch occasionally.
Within three to four days the outer layer of your skin will turn darker and peel. Peeling is usually complete by seven days leaving a soft, smooth, new pink-red skin underneath. This new skin may be pink for about two weeks after the procedure and this can be easily disguised with make-up.
Postoperative care is quite simple: you should keep your skin well lubricated with the prescribed laser gel until it starts to peel and clean it frequently with water while it peels. After your skin has peeled, a moisturizer and sunscreen should be applied to protect your new skin.
DOES FRACTIONAL CO2 LASER WORK ON ALL SKIN TYPES?
Yes, it can be performed on all skin types.
IS IT SAFE?
Yes, Fractional CO2 Laser treatments are safe and effective. As long as you carefully follow your post-treatment instructions, this will be the limit of the difficulties you might experience.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DO THE TREATMENT?
While Fractional CO2 laser treatment reverses the appearance of ageing; we can’t stop the aging process.
Fractional CO2 laser treatment stimulates the growth of collagen and therefore improvements continue for approximately six months after the procedure, depending on your starting point and your lifestyle following treatment.
A single fractional CO2 laser treatment will substantially improve your skin. However, if you have very deep wrinkles, marked unevenness of skin tones, and many dark spots, a second treatment four to six months later may be desirable.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Fractional CO2 laser treatment costs vary, depending on your treatment area and skin condition. Please schedule an appointment at our office and ask for a quotation.
